England’s women golfers are being asked to help the ELGA Trust celebrate its 25th anniversary by fundraising at a summer stableford competition.
The Trust is the charity for girls’ golf and over the past quarter of a century it has provided grants for equipment, tuition, tournament expenses and coaching schemes. But, income has dwindled over recent years and it cannot help all the girls who ask for help.
ELGA is appealing to ladies’ sections at all its affiliated clubs to nominate one of their summer stablefords as the Trust Stableford Competition – and to make a donation based on the points scored by the ten leading players.
Their points will be added together and the total converted to money at the rate of 2p per point.
The club which scores the highest points will receive the ELGA Trust Club Stableford Trophy and a laptop computer, provided by sponsors Advance Computer Systems (Midlands) Ltd. These will be presented at the ELGA annual meeting.
ELGA chief executive Pauline Perla has written to all lady captains asking for their support to make this a special year for the Trust.
She points out: “This really will not cost clubs very much. If the top ten scores average 36 points then the donation will amount to only a little over £7. However, if every club in England takes part, that’s a lot of money for the Trust.”
She added: “Remember, the girls who are helped by the Trust are not the elite players but those who are just beginning their golf and need a little help along the way.”
